UPSC Geo-Scientist (CGSE) 2027 Notification — 127 Vacancies, Apply Online by 22 September 2026
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination (CGSE) 2027 notification (Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL) on 2 September 2026 on its official website upsc.gov.in. A total of 127 tentative vacancies have been announced for Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist and related Scientist B / Assistant-level posts across the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).
This is one of the most-awaited scientific recruitment notifications of the year. Eligible postgraduate candidates can submit their online applications from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026 through the official portal upsconline.nic.in.
This notification covers the Preliminary Examination stage only. Candidates who qualify Prelims will separately be permitted to appear for the Main Examination, followed by a Personality Test for those who clear Mains.

- Geophysicist / Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) — Master’s Degree in Geophysics or applied Physics with relevant specialisation
- Chemist / Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) — Master’s Degree in Chemistry from a recognised university
- Assistant-level posts (Assistant Geologist / Geophysicist / Chemist / Hydrogeologist) — Qualification as prescribed for the corresponding Group A stream; refer to the official notification for exact post-wise requirements
- Candidates already employed in Government service must inform their department in writing before applying.
- Final qualification proof will be required at the appropriate stage of the selection process.
Selection Process
The selection process consists of the following stages:
- Preliminary Examination — Objective Type (Qualifying Stage)
- Main Examination — Descriptive Type, Three Papers in the Chosen Discipline (Merit-Based)
- Personality Test / Interview — For candidates who qualify the Main Examination
- Final Merit List — Based on marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview
How to Apply Online — Step by Step
1) Visit the official UPSC application portal: upsconline.nic.in
2) Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) / Universal Registration Number (URN) process if you are a new user.
3) Log in and fill the Common Application Form (CAF), including live photo capture and signature upload as per specified guidelines.
4) Fill the Examination Specific Module for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2027 and select your stream and preferred examination centres.
5) Pay the application fee of ₹200 for General/OBC/EWS male candidates through the available online payment modes (Nil for Female/SC/ST/PwBD).
6) Review the filled form carefully before final submission.
7) Submit the application and download the confirmation page along with your URN and Application Number for future reference.
